Officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force in Bauchi State have been urged to remain professional, civil and operate strictly within the law as they continue to fight crime and criminality.

The call was made on Thursday by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) in charge of Research and Planning, Zachariah Fera Achinyang, while speaking at a stakeholders’ engagement in Bauchi. He stressed that professionalism demands strict adherence to the oath of office.

According to him, “A policeman who misbehaves cannot be called a professional. A good officer functions within the parameters of the law.”

The DIG, who oversees the Federal Intelligence Department and the North-East geopolitical zone, reminded officers that they swore to uphold Nigeria’s laws upon graduation.

He added that the Bauchi State Police Command was established “for the people, not for us” and must deliver on its constitutional mandate.

The DIG assured traditional rulers, religious leaders, sister agencies, civil society organisations (CSOs), and other stakeholders present that, “We will not take you for granted.”

He commended them for supporting the command’s efforts.

Earlier, the Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, requested a contingency fund to enable faster procurement of operational consumables and to shift policing from reactive measures to intelligence-led operations.

“The government has done much and continues to do so. Our request reflects growing security demands, not dissatisfaction,” CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu said.

He expressed confidence that the Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, would sustain support for security agencies, describing the needed assets as “minimum necessities, not luxuries.”

The CP also assured stakeholders of accountability and professionalism in managing any resources provided.
