THE people of Apomu in Nigeria and in the Diaspora came together to celebrate Apomu Day on Saturday, February 10, 2024. Apomu Day is an eagerly anticipated eagerly event that showcases the rich cultural heritage and investment opportunities in the town.

The event was organised by the Apomu Descendants Union (ADU) in Nigeria and Diaspora.

In his welcome address, the president of the ADU, Chief Abass Soliu, said: “The ancient kingdom is investment-friendly and receptive to investors and tourists.

“The kingdom boasts of the ancient Owode Market, which we want to develop to international standard.”

He added that one of the purposes of this year’s Apomu Day was to raise N250 million for the completion of the ultramodern palace and other high-profile projects.

In his speech, the Alapomu of Apomu, Oba Kayode Adenekan Afolabi, thanked Apomu indigenes for their support since he ascended to the throne four years ago as the 14th Alapom.

He said their support had been the driving force of his achievements so far. “I appreciate you all and I do not take your support for granted,” he stated.

The deputy minority leader of the Senate, representing Osun West, Senator Olalere Oyewumi, also spoke at the event.

Similarly, the first person from Apomu to be in the National Assembly since 1960, Honourable Lanre Oladebo, commended Oba Afolabi for his efforts in promoting cohesion, peace and progress of the community.

Oladebo, who is the member of the House of Representatives for Ayedaade/ Irewole/Isokan Federal Constituency, said the celebration of Apomu Day “is a unifying force that strengthens the cultural history, unity and development of Apomu.”
