The Anambra State Government has mapped out a plan to launch a mass housing scheme for low-income earners in the state.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra State Investment Promotion and Protection Agency (ANSIPPA), Mr Mark Okoye, disclosed this while briefing Journalists in Awka, on Friday, on the achievement the agency has recorded so far within a space of eight months in office.
Okoye said the housing scheme project, if fully implemented, will avail every average citizen of the state, the opportunity to have he/her own house with ease
He mentioned modern market development, gas pipelines to industrial parks, urban water schemes and power projects, as the five major pillars the agency is focusing on.
He said the pillars are part of Governor Charles Soludo’s vision of making Anambra a livable and prosperous state in Nigeria.
He said that the ongoing investments in infrastructure development are the key needed to unlock the state economy for speedy development.
The ANSIPPA boss noted that the Soludo’s administration had achieved advancement of the economy through infrastructure development, citing construction/reconstruction of roads, creation of employment opportunities through the State Skills acquisition programmes and market for small and medium enterprises at construction sites in Awka, Onitsha and Nnewi.
He said, “Infrastructure is the key that unleashes trade and productivity. And without infrastructure, you can’t drive trade and commerce; let’s be clear about that. The Onitsha Port, if completely dredged for use, will be among the major infrastructure asset for import and export business, because it will connect to the largest and busiest seaports in the country.”
He announce that between September 7th-8th 2023, the Agency will hold a world investment summit in Awka, where global investors are expected to brainstorm on human capital development.
