The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has said that Senator Ademola Adeleke’s victory at the August 15th governorship election in Osun State represents the popular will of the people and a reaffirmation of their constitutional right to freely choose their leaders.
In a statement issued by the Spokesperson of CUPP, Comr. Agu Diamond Bryan, he described the mandate not merely as a political victory; but rather a victory for constitutional democracy, popular sovereignty, electoral legitimacy, democratic participation and the rule of law.
He said: “It demonstrates that democratic institutions and electoral processes remain vital instruments for the peaceful transfer and renewal of political mandates.”
CUPP urges Governor Adeleke to see this renewed mandate as a solemn responsibility to deepen democratic consolidation and constitutional governance in Osun State.
They encouraged him to strengthen democratic institutions, promote democratic accountability, uphold electoral integrity and govern with inclusiveness, fairness and respect for all citizens.
He said: “The Governor should also use this opportunity to promote a political culture founded on political tolerance, respect for dissent, constructive opposition, peaceful political competition and political civility.”
While congratulating Adeleke on his resounding victory and re-election as Governor of Osun State, CUPP commended him for his resilience, courage and commitment to democratic values throughout the campaign and electioneering period.
They urged the Governor to also use this opportunity to promote a political culture founded on political tolerance, respect for dissent, constructive opposition, peaceful political competition and political civility.
According to them, democracy is strengthened when opposing viewpoints are respected and when political differences are managed through dialogue rather than confrontation.
CUPP therefore called on Governor Adeleke to embrace inclusive political discourse, consensus-building, politics of accommodation and democratic restraint, while ensuring that every citizen, regardless of political affiliation, feels represented and respected under his administration.

While commending the people of Osun State for exercising their democratic franchise and participating in the electoral process, CUPP said that their choice must be respected as an expression of the popular sovereignty upon which democratic governance rests.
He said: “As Governor Adeleke begins his renewed mandate, CUPP urges him to unite the people, consolidate the gains of his administration and deliver good governance, development and accountable leadership to all.”
According to him, CUPP celebrates this victory as a triumph of democratic culture and calls for the continued protection of democratic norms, institutions and values in Osun State and Nigeria.
