OVER 500 Islamic scholars, preachers and clerics from across the battleground North have endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office in the 2027 presidential election.

The endorsement followed a closed-door meeting with six Northern APC governors, Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, and President Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Political Matters, Ibrahim Kabir Masari.

The six Northern governors who attended the meeting are Umar Namadi (Jigawa), Abba Kabir Yusuf (Kano), Mai Mala Buni (Yobe), Ahmad Aliyu (Sokoto), Uba Sani (Kaduna), and Dikko Radda (Katsina).

Also present at the meeting were other top government officials and political stakeholders.

Although the agenda of the meeting was not made public and journalists were asked to leave before the closed-door session began, on Saturday, feelers emerging from the meeting indicated that the Islamic scholars, preachers and clerics endorsed Tinubu’s re-election bid.

The development comes amid growing political activities and consultations across the Northern region ahead of the 2027 general elections.

It was gathered that the meeting also provided an opportunity for stakeholders to deliberate on issues of concern to the region, including security, the economy, education, agriculture and youth employment.

A source privy to the meeting said the engagement was part of efforts to strengthen support for the Tinubu administration and secure the backing of influential Muslim scholars and intellectuals ahead of the 2027 elections.

“We can’t start campaigns with this kind of reservations. We have to reach out and ensure that we have their support, as well as strategise on how to secure the region’s support,” the source, who pleaded anonymity, said.
