Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto have unanimously affirmed Ahmed Aliyu as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
The affirmation took place on Thursday during the party’s governorship primary held in Sokoto, where delegates and stakeholders from the 244 wards and 23 local government areas endorsed the governor through a consensus arrangement.
Chairman of the APC Electoral Committee, Alhaji Mukhtar Birniwa, said the peaceful outcome of the exercise reflected the unity and collective resolve of party members across the state.

Birniwa noted that the committee’s task was made easier by the unanimous decision already reached at the ward level.
“The party members across the 244 wards have spoken with one voice in support of Governor Ahmed Aliyu. What we have done here today is to formally affirm that decision,” he said.
He subsequently declared Aliyu as the APC candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Sokoto State.
In his remarks, Governor Aliyu expressed gratitude to party faithful and the people of Sokoto State for the confidence placed in him.
He described the endorsement as a demonstration of trust in his administration and pledged to remain committed to policies and programmes aimed at improving the living conditions of the people.
The governor assured supporters that his administration would continue to build on its achievements and expand development projects across all parts of the state if re-elected.
