Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has constituted screening committees for all 36 states ahead of the commencement of its screening exercise for aspirants seeking to contest for seats in the various State Houses of Assembly.
NDC announced that the screening exercise will begin on Saturday, May 23, 2026, and end on Monday, May 25, 2026, as part of preparations for its nomination process.
In a memo jointly signed by the party’s National Chairman, Moses Cleopas Zuwoghe, and National Secretary, Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, the NDC outlined the guidelines that would govern the exercise and the eligibility criteria for aspirants.

According to the party, aspirants would be assessed based on character, capability, and electoral viability, among other considerations.
The memo stated that only financially up-to-date members of the party who have demonstrated commitment to the growth and development of the NDC would be eligible to purchase the party’s nomination forms.
It added that prospective candidates must meet constitutional requirements for the offices they seek and must not have criminal records or be under investigation or trial by anti-corruption agencies.
The party also issued a stern warning against violence and disorder during the screening exercise, stating that aspirants who arrive at screening venues accompanied by thugs or miscreants risk immediate disqualification.
“The screening committees are made up of three members each for every state, comprising a Chairman, a Secretary and one Member,” the memo stated.
The constitution of the committees is expected to ensure uniformity and transparency in the screening process across the federation as the party intensifies preparations for its state legislative primaries.
The development comes amid broader efforts by the NDC leadership to strengthen internal democracy and establish a merit-based candidate selection process ahead of forthcoming elections.
