A 19-year-old housewife, Aisha Musa, who got married about 40 days ago, has been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command for allegedly attempting to kill her husband by poisoning his food in Gwamma Village, Bauchi Local Government Area of the state.

The arrest was announced by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Nafiu Habib, in a statement made available to journalists on Friday.

According to him, “On 12th August, 2026 at about 1515hrs, the suspect, who is said to be a bride of about 40 days, allegedly introduced a poisonous substance into her husband’s meal.”

He added: “Subsequently, at about 1940hrs on the same day, a distress call was received from an anonymous lady residing at Wunti Dada Area, Bauchi, reporting the incident to the police.”

In a swift response, operatives of ‘C’ Division, Tafawa Balewa Estate, mobilised to the scene and immediately evacuated the victim to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, where he is currently receiving medical treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.

The suspect was subsequently apprehended, and, according to the police, during interrogation, she was cautioned and voluntarily made a confessional statement admitting to the alleged offence.

An empty bottle suspected to have contained poison and remnants of the food were also recovered and registered as exhibits.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet and thorough investigation.

The police said the suspect would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.

The command reiterated its commitment to the protection of lives and property and the enforcement of law and order across the state.

It also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
