National Coordinator, Promise Path programme, a subsidiary of the Prison Fellowship Nigeria (PFN), Mrs Tosin Olugbade has explained reason children of inmates be taken care of.
Olugbade stated that the children of the inmates should be shown love because they are being marginalised in the society.
She stated this on Saturday during the closing ceremony of a three-day camp organised for children of inmates in Oyo held at St Patrick Catholic Church, Bashorun , Ibadan, Oyo state capital.
The National coordinator of the initiative further stated that the children were also been take care of by the group in a bid to reduce crime and as well break the chain of poverty in the society.
She said; “This programme is an initiative of Prison Fellowship International in conjunction with Prison Fellowship Nigeria , it caters to the social educational spiritual needs of children the incarcerated people.
“We have organised this Promise Path Camp for this set of vulnerable people for them to understand that they are valuable and as well let them know that they have hidden talents that God have deposited inside them and tell them all they could do to tap in to the talents”.
“With this programme, we are doing our best to contribute to the society in a bid to reduce crime because you agree that children are the leaders of tomorrow while some have taken to crime because some of them have not been nurtured in the right direction.
“This programme was also organised because the group realised that children of this category are often susceptible to marginalisation , low self esteem , regret and shame which is not based on their action but the action of their parents. So what we are telling them is that their background and whatever their parents had done does not matter but what matter is what God has deposited in them and we don’t want them to go the way their parents has gone , so we are breaking a circle of crime and poverty with the initiative,” she noted.
Also speaking with Nigerian Tribune, the state coordinator of Promise Path Programme, Kayode Oluyonbo explained that the group caters for 45 children while 32 of them turn up for the camp.
He noted that aside from the camp organised for the children, the group is also cater for their educational needs, visit them in their homes and school.
While Ouyonbo advised every well-meaning Nigerians especially parents to remember that the less privileged are out there and should be care for.
