VIDEO: Real reason Igbos voted Peter Obi — Abaribe

Lawmaker representing Abia South senatorial district, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, has revealed reason a significant number of Igbos voted Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi.

According to him, Igbo voters didn’t choose Obi based on tribalism but because they viewed him as the most competent among all the candidates who contested in the February 25 poll.

He made the clarification in a recent interview on Signature TV, monitored by TRIBUNE ONLINE.

“No, Igbos didn’t vote for him (Peter Obi) because he was Igbo; they voted for him because they saw him as the best candidate.

“I am open to challenges from anyone. This is why his appeal extended beyond the Igbo community and resonated nationwide,” he replied when questioned about whether Igbos voted for Obi solely based on tribalism.

Obi is currently challenging President Bola Tinubu’s victory before the Presidential Election Tribunal Court (PEPC), urging the tribunal to issue an order directing INEC to present him with a certificate of return as the duly elected president of Nigeria.

As it stands, parties are still waiting for the date the Tribunal will decide the fate of the three leading candidates in the last presidential election.
