The Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU), University of Ilorin chapter, has shared among its retired staff members a sum of N80 million as retirement welfare package from the union.
Mr Ibrahim Suberu, chairman of the chapter, made this known on Monday while coordinating the 2020 Retirees’ Welfare Package Programme instituted by the union.
According to him, the package was meant for those who retired up till December 12, 2019 and whose records were forwarded to the union.
Suberu appreciated the efforts of the members, including the stakeholders, for the achievements recoded so far.
While declaring that members of the union formed the largest workforce in the university, he noted that they had been playing their roles in the development of the set goals by the founding fathers of the institution.
“For the avoidance of doubt, we shall be paying 40 retirees of the institution’s staff members who have served the university and the union meritoriously. Each of them will be going home with N200,000, rather than usual N150, 000.
“In fact, we are working toward ensuring our members go home after their retirement with more than N500,000,” Suberu said.
He prayed for the repose of the souls of late members of the union, just as he acknowledged other members who are still alive, praying that God will continue to protect them from the coronavirus pandemic ravaging the whole world.
Suberu also commended the management of the university, NASU’s national body and the Kwara State branch for their support and assistance to the union, as well as for ranking as topmost members’ welfare.
The immediate past NASU chairperson of the chapter, Mrs Olabisi Adesina, commended the union’s executives for providing such benefits in this trying period of COVID-19 pandemic.
