Two die from Nipah virus outbreak in South India

Two died from an outbreak of the deadly Nipah virus was confirmed in Kerala, a Southern state in India.

According to Kerala’s chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, the authorities have taken preemptive measures to curb the spread, shutting down schools and mass-testing citizens for the disease.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Nipah is a zoonotic virus transmitted from animals to humans. It can also be transmitted through contaminated food or directly between people.
