Troops now hunting senior terrorist leadership — DHQ

The Defence Headquarters has announced that military troops and other security agencies are actively hunting senior terrorist leaders who coordinate attacks on troops and Nigerians.

This effort, TRIBUNE ONLINE, aims to end insecurity in the country.

At a bi-weekly briefing on ongoing military operations, Director Defence Media Operations (DMO) Major General Edward Buba disclosed that troops are focused on destroying both the military capability and the will to fight terrorists and their cohorts across the country.

According to General Buba, troops are hunting senior terrorist leaders who are operationally important in coordinating attacks. Additionally, they are targeting those with symbolic value, including those already declared wanted.

One such individual is Halilu Buzu, a terrorist leader from the Republic of Niger who has settled in Zamfara State. He is a prominent cattle rustler and illegal gold miner, and his boys recently killed 19 villagers. He is a high-value target and has been declared wanted.

General Buba emphasized that troops will stop at nothing to take out terrorists perpetrating insecurity in the nation. During the week under review, troops neutralized 227 terrorists, arrested 529 persons, and rescued 253 kidnapped hostages.

Furthermore, troops recovered 231 assorted weapons, 6,441 assorted ammunition, and other items. In the South-South, troops denied oil theft worth an estimated N1,312,477,050.

The DMO explained that troops in the Niger Delta area discovered and destroyed illegal refining sites, recovered stolen crude oil, and arrested militants. Troops are fighting admirably in a challenging complex combat environment and have made significant progress.

However, there is still much work ahead, as many more terrorists need to be killed, weapons recovered, and terrorist commanders taken off the battlefield.
