Things we wouldn’t want to ruin our Christmas

Published by

It’s another Yuletide season when families have time-out in form of Christmas party, traveling, pay visits to relatives, visit Santa Claus, exchange of gifts and the like. One beautiful aspect of this season is that everyone has opportunity to plan ahead to have his or her choice celebration. However, some happenings might occur that would not allow one to have the dream celebration. Some students of Ipadeola Memorial Academy Off Settlement Road, Ilora, Oyo State, shared with Aunty ‘Yemi some of the things that might not make Christmas their dream celebration

Adewumi Glory 14 yrs old, SSS 1

I am very elated to mark this year’s Christmas in a unique way. My school through the help of our Music teacher is planning to produce the video of a song composed by students. On the other hand, if my church should organise a retreat, which starts on December 25 if planned for, my dream Yuletide celebration will not come through. The church is beside my residence and my parents would attend, so I have no excuse. This year, I would like to appreciate my Mathematics teacher with a gift because his class is usually lively and that has aided our understanding of the seeming difficult subject.

The Yuletide celebration this year would look somehow if my parents do not buy Christmas wears for me. I am expectant because I am not yet a teenager. I enjoyed myself at the Carol organized by my school on Thursday where all participants were served refreshment.  At Christmas, I would like to put a smile on the face of my English teacher who is always lively and kind.

If my mum travels out of the country during this season, that would not make the Christmas celebration this year how I would have loved it to be. My school held 2022 Christmas last Thursday December 14, it was glorious. I sang with my classmates. Christmas gifts were given to all students.  Sometimes ago, during this season, I received a frame from my sister in Lagos and I want to do it for my Marketing teacher who teaches us well. I cannot forget the gift and the giver.

Christmas is a time to bond, celebrate and have fun together as a family but if my daddy should travel, the celebration will not be what I have planned. As the best student in English and Mathematics, I received a prize for the great feat. In the same vein, as we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, I want to show gratitude to my English teacher whose labour over me, I appreciate.

I would not have my dream Christmas celebration if my parents do not make chicken available for the celebration. I was excited by various presentations during the Carol recently held in the school especially the choreography because, I do not belong to any other singing group. At the news of producing the video of a song by the school choir comprising of 63 students, I felt very happy and encouraged. Thanks to our Music teacher.

I plan to have a nice time with my dad who will be coming to town from Lagos. Aside not feeling fine, nothing can stop me from celebrating Christmas, as I would wish. As for me, one of the activities that marks Yuletide is visit to my family house, where I meet with other relatives.  Our carol was held in a special way as planned especially the provision of instruments which made a difference. The Bible I once received from my church as Christmas gift is still helping to learn more about God. I will give my best friend who is also the principal’s daughter a Christmas gift at this season of giving.

Joshua Adejumo, 14 yrs old, SSS 1

2023 Christmas will not be a dream celebration for me if any of my grandparents should pass on during the season because I love to be with them. I had once lived with my paternal grandparents in order to assist with house chores, so I am used to keeping them company. If I would give anyone Christmas gift, it would be for the Principal, because he is a disciplinarian. My school gave all students customized gifts during our Carol and this brought smile to everyone’s face.

What would not make the Yuletide my dream celebration is when my parents do not allow me travel to my uncle’s place. I wish to present a Christmas gift to my class teacher as way of my appreciation.

Funmilayo Olayiwola, SSS 1

If I do not have a new Christmas outfit, the Christmas celebration would not be my dream one. As part of my Christmas wishes, I would like to show my Biology teacher, that all her efforts are appreciated by giving a gift. Kudos to my school for adding to her success story this term, with the production of a song put together by some students, with assistance from the Music teacher, to the entire world on different social media.
