Sunny Kuku steps into bigger shoes

Like the goldfish, the co-chairman of the Eko Hospital, Chief Sunny Kuku, has no hiding place.

The current holder of the Olorogun title is being identified for another big honour with the announcement emanating from the Awujale of Ijebu, Oba Sikiru Adetona’s palace naming the renowned physician the new Ogbeni Oja of Ijebuland.

With this title, Kuku makes history as the third Ijebu man to receive the honour.

Prominent Ijebu indigenes, Late Chief Adeola Odutola and High Chief Bayo Kuku held the title before their death.

The Ogbeni Oja title is usually given at the discretion of the Awujale to an accomplished businessman, who has done well in his chosen career.

With the title, Chief Sunny Kuku has ascended to the highest non-hereditary and most prestigious title in Ijebuland.

While the news brought cheers to his many friends, preparations for the traditional ceremony started with promises of a grand ceremony that would shake the entire Ijebu kingdom.
