Sunday Igboho storms Ogun, vows to flush out killer herdsmen

Published by

Popular Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, on Monday, stormed Ogun State, to flush out herdsmen terrorising the people of Yewaland.

Igboho in an interview with the Ogun State-owned television station said he was in the state having had information about how herders in connivance with some soldiers are maltreating Yoruba people on their father’s land.

He narrated that his mission in the state was to flush out the herders in a bid to regain his people farmland and other valuables from being taken over by the marauders.

Igboho promised to work in collaboration with the Ogun State Government in ensuring that the Fulani herdsmen did not overrun his kinsmen

“I am in Ogun State to flush out Fulani herdsmen terrorising my people in Yewa axis of the state. The activities of these herders are unbecoming, hence, the need for Yourbas to fight for our rights before our land is being taken over by them.

“Our people living abroad are afraid of returning home because of unpleasant news about the activities of kidnappers and other banditry.

“We must not allow any evil whatsoever to happen to any Yoruba man in the hands of these people. They do not mean well for us,” he added.

He promised to meet with the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, after his visit to communities under the siege of the herdsmen.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State government has reassured residents of adequate security.

In a statement issued by the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Alhaji Abdulwaheed Odusile, denied government seeking help from Sunday Adeyemo (Igboho).

The government statement refuted reports in a national daily and some social media platform insinuating that it had enlisted the help of Mr Sunday Adeyemo, to combat crimes in the state.

This was just as it reiterated its commitment to the security of all residents and properties in the state.

The government in the state refuted a news report credited to Hon Remmy Hazzan, the Special Adviser on Public Communication to Governor Dapo Abiodun, saying Hazzan’s virtual interview with a reporter was quoted out of context and twisted to achieve sensational effects.

“In the interview, Hon Hazzan had said that the state government, in its usual inclusive approach to governance, would continue to work with all the stakeholders, both within and outside the state, to ensure the security of lives and properties. Sadly, however, this statement was disingenuously twisted to mean that the State had invited Mr Adeyemo to help curb insecurity. This is regrettable and totally misleading.

“Prince Dapo Abiodun’s Administration, since inception, has been known to be inclusive in its approach, always collaborating and engaging with a wide range of stakeholders. Security is no exception, resulting in the achievement of the enviable status and recognition as a most secure state in the country by many organisations, including the recent Award by Business Day Newspaper, among others,” Odusile noted

Government advised residents to continue to go about their normal businesses.
