Remi Tinubu doles out N100k each to 250 Ebonyi elders

The wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has released the sum of one hundred thousand naira (100,000) for two hundred and fifty vulnerable elderly citizens aged 65 and above to cushion the effect of the economic situation.

According to Mrs. Tinubu, her mission was to alleviate the burdens of vulnerable elders during this Christmas season.

Senator Tinubu disclosed this on Thursday during the flag-off of the Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme (RHIESS) with the theme Better Days Ahead.

Mrs Tinubu, represented by the wife of Ebonyi State Governor Mrs Mary-Maudline Nwifuru, said the economic empowerment programme is borne out of a steadfast commitment to the well-being of the elderly citizens, as it marks a significant stride in their collective pursuit of a more inclusive and compassionate society.

Mrs Nwifuru then called on Ebonyi stakeholders to support her office in the fight against gender-based violence in the state.

In his part, Governor Francis Nwifuru commended the president’s wife for the innovations and charged the governor’s wives to emulate her actions.

Nwifuru said, “I’m not surprised by the kind of innovations she is bringing to this administration because she is teaching our wives diverse ways of life.

I do encourage the wives of the governors to emulate the wives of the presidents because our president’s wives are God’s gifts to the president of the Republic of Nigeria.

“She is the one cementing the relationships, and she is galvanising support. She also informs the public on the need to come together, the need for peace, the need to celebrate the elders, and that I want so many of us to come back home and celebrate the elders.

“To my dear wife, I’m not surprised; I still remember the first day I sighted you, and what kind you were together was your disposition to help the poor.

“Many of us have passed through huddles, and when we see one that is very open and eager to help the poor, it gladdens our hearts and gives us confidence to have people who feel like us.

“It is not because we have much but because we are disposed to render help to the needy. It is a necessity for a state to help the needy at a particular point in time. As I said always and at the last time we gathered here, all hands must be on the desk for us to get it done.

“We are badly challenged as government officials at this moment, especially with the initiatives of the president’s wife. I am taking it as humbling and also fingering me to at least remember that human capital development is the best way of developing a city and a state.

“So the doggedness of the President’s wife, her disposition, is already doing a lot in this great nation; sincerely, as I told my wife, the contributions I made earlier on were not sufficient, and I decided to take a bold step, and it is very hard, but I must do it.”
