Proactive actions to end insurgency

Published by

Even though the Federal Government did not take actions early enough in preventing the entry of the coronavirus into the country, the steps later taken went a long way in curbing the spread of the virus. In order to prevent the spread of the virus, all our economic activities were locked down. The health sector which was supposed to be active was also affected as medical personnel reportedly ran away from patients that went to the hospital for treatments of other ailments different from coronavirus infection.

Many complained that the government did not provide necessary equipments including the PPE in protecting themselves and other necessary equipments for treatment, isolation centres and other things required to control the spread of the virus. Spiritual and social activities were all suspended just to curb the spread. People were subjected to greater hardships as they could not go out in search of their livelihood. Palliatives were proposed to be given to the vulnerable among us but which reportedly disappeared. The cost of economic damage caused by this lockdown is better imagined.

The government must be ready to take the insecurity issue seriously as it has done with the coronavirus pandemic. How many lives have been lost to the clashes between herdsmen and farmers? What about Boko Haram terrorism and banditry? These have been on the rampage for about eight years. The total death recorded so far even as of the time of this write up is less

If the government wants to end this insurgency, it should show more commitment in this regard. Should we continue to wait and appear handicap to the ravaging madness of the Boko Haram, bandits and kidnappers? If the protection of the lives and properties of the citizens of this nation is important to the various levels of government, they should show this by doing the needful in order to put an end to these killings and insurgencies. The service chiefs should be retired. The various means known to the government to end this unpleasant situation that threatens our collectivity should be employed before it becomes too late.

Marcus Jadson.
