Plateau State Police Command intercepted a large consignment of cannabis sativa, also known as marijuana, during a routine stop and search within the state capital.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Julius Alawari, told newsmen that four persons, a driver, and three other suspects were arrested on Thursday by men of the command and are presently undergoing an investigation to unravel the kingpins behind the dangerous substance.
He narrated that the truck was intercepted at Qata area in Jos South local government by men of the command on routine patrol, adding that the substance was concealed inside the truck while packets of gins were used to cover it up.
According to him, in searching the truck, over one hundred sacks of marijuana were neatly tucked inside the vehicle, while the driver and the other three people attested to their ignorance of what was contained inside the sacks.
“Last night at about 10:30 p.m., our patrol team was able to intercept a truck loaded with marijuana concealed behind cartons of dry gins. Four suspects were arrested: the driver and three others.
They claimed to have been conveying the item from Lagos while their destination was Plateau State, but unfortunately for them, our men on patrol intercepted them.
“We are yet to identify the person that sent them, and therefore an investigation is on to bring all the culprits that are involved to book.”
The driver of the truck (name withheld) told newsmen that he was handed over the sacks in Nasarawa State to help convey them to Jos, Plateau State, adding that he had no knowledge of the contents until he ran into the police patrol team, which searched the vehicle.
