Ondo 2020: I am not bothered by endorsement ― Mafo

The deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2016 governorship election and an aspirant of the party in the forthcoming governorship election,  Mr. John Mafo, has said he was never bothered with series of endorsement in the party.

Mafo who stated this in a statement issued and signed by him, said he decided to focus on his governorship ambition rather than playing politics of endorsement.

He said he was not interested in the controversy which he said would have a negative effect on the image of the PDP as a party.

He said “I am focused on my aspiration to serve the good people of Ondo State as the next Governor and as much as possible, I try not to dissipate time and energy on anything that will not add value to my vision to serve my people.

“My focus, calculations and strategies are geared towards how to convince the over two thousand delegates from the 18 local government areas, who will pick the PDP flagbearer at the primary that I am the right candidate for the job.

” I know that endorsement is not anything strange in politics as every delegate or group of delegates have a right of choice as long as nobody can bind me or take away my right to contest based on my conviction on the basis of any endorsement to which I was not a party.

“For the avoidance of doubt, I am not against the principle of endorsement or concensus arrangement, at local, federal or national level so long as all the concerned stakeholders are carried along and provided the arrangement is sanctioned by the appropriate authorities, with the consent of all aspirants, followed by appropriate communication, adequate notice, proper conduct and supervision by unbiased umpires.

He, however, said, “it is my considered opinion that the level at which some individuals are operating in the name of politics is embarrassing to say the least.

“I am conditioned by history, principle, conscience, reputation, discipline, integrity and my antecedent never to betray, look back or compromise”
