The Niger State Government and the French Republic have reaffirmed their commitment to improving the existing relationship for mutual benefit.
This commitment was made during a meeting between Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, and the French Ambassador to Nigeria in Abuja.
The diplomatic ties between the two governments will focus on various sectors, including education, agriculture, energy, investment, job creation, tourism, and culture.
Governor Umaru Bago highlighted the abundant natural resources in the state, particularly its comparative advantage in food and cash crops. He emphasized that strengthening the relationship with France would create job opportunities for the youth and improve the socioeconomic status of the state.
The Governor also stated that his administration’s policy thrust encompasses infrastructure, health, education, renewable energy, and other areas. He revealed plans to invest in the shea butter processing industry, targeting 400,000 women, as well as establishing a state-of-the-art garment factory for mass production of school, military, and vigilante uniforms.
Furthermore, Governor Umaru Bago informed the French Ambassador about his administration’s intention to promote the planting of ten million trees in the next four years as part of efforts to mitigate climate change and address global warming.
The French Ambassador to Nigeria, Ms Emmanuelle Blatmann, expressed the French Government’s eagerness to strengthen its bilateral relationship with Nigeria, particularly with the Niger State Government, for mutual benefits. She assured that the French government is committed to the success of the partnership and is willing to provide advanced technology and scholarships to the people.
The Ambassador also highlighted the French Government’s significant investment of over three billion Euros in rural electrification projects in Northern Nigeria.
