Published by

AS part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR), the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has trained secondary school students in Lagos State on financial literacy.

The exercise involved a combination of schools like Immaculate Heart Comprehensive Secondary School (Junior and Senior) and Mende High School (Junior and Senior).

The training, which was the fourth edition, was in commemoration of 2023 Financial Literacy Day with the aim of making the students imbibe saving culture.

The 2023 training, which took place at SUBEB Hall, Maryland, Lagos, was attended by at least 200 students and had “Plan Your Money, Plant Your Future,” as its theme.

In his address, the managing director and chief executive officer of NDIC, Mr Bello Hassan, said the programme  was part of the corporation’s CSR.

Hassan, who was represented by a top executive, Philomena Eke from NDIC’s Lagos zonal office, said the annual financial literacy programme kicked off in 2021.

The NDIC boss explained that the programme was designed in the spirit of, “catch them young and make the learners financially literate.”

Hassan said, “The intention of NDIC is to catch them young. Financial literacy training is to ensure that you are financially literate while you are young.”

The event was attended by representatives from the various schools and Lagos State Ministry of Education, led by the Director, Basic Education Services.
