THE Senate and House of Representatives committees on Agriculture in conjunction with the Institute of Agricultural Research and Training (IAR&T) recently trained women and youths the usage of mordern farming equipment.

The workshop, tagged: “Capacity Building on Handling Mordern Farming Equipment” organised by Alvirix Integrated Limited in collaboration with Bora-Agro Nigeria Limited, had participants drawn from different part of the country.

Director, IAR&T, Professor Veronica Obatolu, represented by the Deputy Director, Dr Jelili Olaide Saka, told the Nigerian Tribune on the sidelines of the workshop that:”We are gathered here today to witness another one in the series of capacity building programme for youths, women and other stakeholders in agriculture specifically training youth and women on the handling of mordern farming equipment.

“When we say capacity building, it is to expose them to theoretical training on what each of these equipment can do and how to maintain them. Then after that we now go to the field to demonstrate to them how these equipment are being used and the specific farm operation they are meant for.”

Saka further hinted that:”After all these, the National Assembly committees also make provision for a starter stipends that the particiapnts at the workshop are going to use to purchase some of the equipment that they are going to use on their farm.”
