Lauretta Onochie
The Minority Caucus in the Senate has vowed to move against the nomination of Lauretta Onochie, President Muhammadu Buhari’s Special Assistant on Social Media as National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Onochie and three others were announced by President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan while reading a letter from President Buhari.
Senator representing Abia South and Senate Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe in a statement accused Buhari of violating the constitution by nominating a card-carrying member of his party into INEC.
He said: “President Buhari by nominating Loretta Onochie has willfully gone against the constitution that he swore to uphold.
“Item F, paragraph 14 of the Third Schedule of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) forbids a card-carrying member of a political party to be a member of INEC.
“The Minority Caucus of the Senate is against this nomination and calls on Mr President to withdraw it.”
