Labour strike: Reps adjourn probe on job racketeering

The ad-hoc committee investigating job racketeering among Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) on Monday adjourned sitting to Thursday, 7th September, 2023.

This was due to the planned industrial action by the organised labour scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 5th and Wednesday, 6th September 2023.

The ad-hoc committee was mandated to investigate the alleged mismanagement of personnel recruitment, employment racketeering and gross mismanagement of the IPPIS.

Speaking upon resumption of the hearing, Chairman of the ad-hoc committee, Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi (APC-Plateau) explained that the hearing was postponed to enable all the MDAs invited to make their presentations.

Recall that the ad-hoc committee during last Friday’s hearing, vowed to resist any attempt to distract the ad-hoc committee from carrying out its mandates.

While frowning at the level of impunity being perpetuated by some public officials involved in the alleged job racketeering, Gagdi assured Nigerians of the 10th Assembly’s resolve to end the practice going forward.

Gagdi who noted that the ad-hoc committee will make far-reaching recommendations in its report, pledged that the issue bothering on indiscriminate waiver being granted to MDAs would be abolished forthwith.

Some of the officials invited by the ad-hoc committee so far include Chairman, Secretary and Commissioners as well as officials of Federal Character Commission (FCC); Accountant General of the Federation (AGF) and the Head of Service of the Federation (HoS).

Others are officials of federal parastatals, tertiary institutions; Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), and Registrars of Federal Polytechnics, among others.
