Kano: Gov Yusuf appoints nephew as head of agency

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the appointment of his nephew, Ahmad A. Yusuf, as the Executive Secretary of the state History and Culture Bureau.

This decision seems to contradict the governor’s previous statement in which he assured the public that he would not involve his family in the governance of the state.

During a ceremony on March 29, 2023, where he received his certificate of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Governor Yusuf explicitly stated, “There is no way I will allow my family to be involved in my government because the Oath of Office I took, I did it alone without them, meaning they are not part of the government.”

It is worth mentioning that Ahmad Yusuf, the governor’s nephew, has been raised under the care of the first family, and the governor reportedly refers to him as his eldest son.

However, in a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf announced the appointment of Ahmad A. Yusuf as the Executive Secretary of the Kano State History and Culture Bureau, effective immediately.

The statement read, “The Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the appointment of the following: Arc. Ahmad A. Yusuf, Executive Secretary, Kano State History and Culture Bureau; Ado Jibrin Kankarofi, Deputy Managing Director, Kano State Road Maintenance Agency (KARMA); and Hauwa Muhammad, Special Assistant, Women Affairs. All appointments are with immediate effect. Congratulations!”
