Kano Assembly passes N437bn budget for 2024

Published by

The Kano State House of Assembly has approved a budget of N437.35 billion for the fiscal year 2024.

It will be recalled that the state governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, initially presented a N350 billion budget to the assembly on October 27, pledging to block leakages and ensure transparency and accountability in government operations.

However, the Speaker of the Assembly, Jubril Ismail Falgore, noted that the budget was increased from N350 billion to N437.3 billion before its passage to address the needs of the people.

He mentioned that ’64 per cent of the budget was allocated for capital projects, while 38 per cent is designated for recurrent expenditures.’

It is also worth noting that the assembly organised a public hearing last week to gather input from other stakeholders on the budget, following the appearance of 44 local government chairmen before the lawmakers for budget defence.

Moreover, the Majority Leader and representative of the Dala constituency, Lawal Hussaini Chediyar, stated that the budget is geared towards enhancing the quality of education, healthcare services, roads, and other infrastructural developments in rural areas. Additionally, it aims to promote skill acquisition programmes for women and youth.
