Ishola empowers Egbeda community with N5m as palliative

As part of his bid to support the Oyo State government in cushioning the current challenges Nigerians are facing through the removal of fuel subsidy, a philanthropist and politician from the
Egbeda Local Government in Ibadan Adewale Ishola, has given back to his community with subsidy-driven empowerment as he donated N50,000 each to 100 people in the Egbeda/Ona-Ara Federal Constituency.

According to Ishola, the gesture was in line with the response to complement the effort of the state government following the decision of the Federal government to eliminate fuel subsidies, which had caused economic hardship for Nigerians, especially those in the rural areas.

The fund donation turned into be carnival-like gathering, at the Greenland Hotel, Ibadan, Oyo State, as the philanthropist was represented by Alhaji Semiu Alebiosu, who stated, “The move was necessary due to the economic hardships encountered by the populace due to the loss of gasoline subsidies, which rendered them unable to meet their daily necessities.

Ishola, who was the Campaign Manager for Governor Seyi Makinde’s re-election in Egbeda Local Government, stressed that the empowerment was designed to help his constituents in their time of need, as well as to promote Governor Makinde’s state economic recovery plan.

He also promised that there would be a second phase of the empowerment to help more individuals in his district, emphasising that the motivation behind the programme is simply philanthropic, with no political purpose.

He, however, urged beneficiaries to use the funds properly to become self-sufficient and secure their lives.

One of the beneficiaries of the empowerment, Mr Kabir Oladimeji, expressed his delight over the gesture, saying, “On behalf of the community, we specially think thank you for supporting people and the community at large at these trying times. Honourable Ishola, you have shown that you indeed genuinely care about your people.”

Another beneficiary, Mrs Lateef Labake, noted that the empowerment, without doubt, will improve people’s socioeconomic level, particularly among rural women, just as she promised to use the fund wisely and reiterated her steadfast support for the facilitator.

She also urged both elected and appointed political officeholders to take a cue from Honourable Ishola in their community service.
