I feel like lion ready to devour enemies — Acting IGP, Egbetokun

Vice President Kashim Shettima on Tuesday decorated Mr Kayode Egbetokun as the acting Inspector-General of Police.

He performed the short ceremony in his office at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Shettima was assisted by Egbetokun’s spouse, Mrs Egbetokun at the event witnessed by senior government officials, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume; Imo State governor, Hope Uzodinma; the Chief of Staff to the President, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila; the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu and the outgoing Inspector-General of Police, Alkali Baba.

In a brief chat with correspondents after his decoration, the acting IGP said he felt like a tiger ready to chase away criminals.

Asked how he felt about the new responsibility, he said: “Now, I have just been decorated and I am looking forward to taking over tomorrow morning by 11 am.

“I really cannot describe how I feel presently, but if I have to tell you anything, I will tell you that right now I feel like a Tiger inside of me ready to chase away all the criminals in Nigeria.

“And some other time, I feel like a lion in me ready to devour all the internal enemies of Nigeria. That’s my feeling right now.”

Also speaking, the immediate past IGP, Alkali Baba stressed the significance of passing the torch to his successor.

He said: “It’s a stage, you come, you work, and you go. I’m happy I am handing over to somebody I know that will carry the mantle of leadership from where I have stopped.”

On how much he knew about the new police boss, he added: “We grew up in the job, we grew up together. I was his boss at a time or even when I was IG.

“He worked under me twice, we’ve been working together and I know how he can go ahead to champion the course of the police from where I stopped.”
