Govt should build at least a cinema in each local govt —Jide Kosoko

VETERAN actor and movie producer, Prince Jide Kosoko, has called on the government to support the fast-growing movie industry in Nigeria by building more cinema houses, which he said would in turn give more platforms for filmmakers to showcase their works.

Kosoko who made this call in an interview with Saturday Tribune, talked about the growth currently experienced in the movie industry, saying “the cinema culture which was the vogue during our childhood is now back and it is growing again gradually.”

In addition to the private cinemas currently established all around the country, Kosoko said the government should also support the fast-growing movie industry in Nigeria by building at least a cinema in each of the 774 local government areas in the country.

“The issue is that we produce movies, and with the cinema houses we have, films are still struggling to get dates because there are not enough cinema houses to show them. We expect government too to at least build a cinema or two in each local government in Nigeria. Forget about too beautiful a cinema, let there be an assembly hall where film can be screened and it is comfortable enough and let there be platforms, atmosphere that our people can enjoy these movies,” he said.
