The Institute of Strategic Entrepreneurs of Nigeria (ISEN) has called on the Federal government to give genuine attention to skills acquisition training for the youth population of the country as a source of job creation in the country.
Speaking at an induction ceremony in Abuja, the Registrar of ISEN, Ossai Elvis said skills development is the sure way of reducing unemployment and criminal activities in Nigeria.
“We are calling on the government to pay more attention to this sector, skilled trade is the guaranteed way of solving the unemployment crisis in the country” he stated.
The Registrar revealed that ISEN has facilitated the training of over 7,000 people across the country for the past Six (6) years.
“We are pulling out people from the streets to give them direction in life through skill acquisition. A new way to move this country forward”.
In an effort to expand awareness creation and actual training in different category skills, ISEN is partnering with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Secondary Education Board to further strengthen vocational programmes at the secondary school level.
Also at the Induction ceremony, the Head Division of FCT-SEB on Trade and Entrepreneur, Owolabi Elija stated that the Board has over the years created a platform for young students to showcase new inventions.
The Head of Entrepreneur Unit of the Board, Mrs Elizabeth Udofia said there is need for more awareness campaigns on skills acquisition in the country.
“Parents or guardians have a great role to play in the issue of skills acquisition trainings, so they need to understand the importance of skills in the lives of their children in order to allow these young people learn a skill” she stated.
FCT-SEB and ISEN are planning to host skill training for secondary students in Abuja before the end of 2023.
Established in 2017, ISEN is a Non-Governmental Organisation that seeks the development of vocational training as a source of wealth creation for young and old people in Nigeria.
