Favourite Celebrity

PREFERENCE is an essential part of humanity; from cereals to books and even celebrities, we all have favourites. This week on WhatsApp Conversation, the attention turns to the favourite celebrities. Respondents talk about their favourite stars:

Sarah Agboola

Jen Ledger. She is a drummer/co-vocalist in the band Skillet and the lead singer in her band LEDGER. She is an incredible drummer, and has the most beautiful singing voice in the world. She is also a genuinely good caring person. She is very humble and down-to-earth and can be silly at times. She also has the most beautiful contagious smile in the world too.

Tosin Awoniyi

The name of my favourite celebrity is ‘Wole Ojo.’ Wole Ojo commenced his professional acting career at the age of 9 but he broke into Nigerians’ consciousness in 2009 after winning the fourth edition of the Amstel Malta Box Office (AMBO) reality show.  He is an actor par excellence anytime, any day. He is good at what he does and also knows his onions in the entertainment industry. Give him any role to play in a movie; he will interpret and portray his character perfectly, well beyond the viewer’s expectation. What I find attractive about him is his calmness and simplicity.

Emmanuel Adeyemi

It is the Westlife music group.  They are my favourite celebrities. Their music style is unique; it speaks directly to the soul.

Olayemi Adeola

I like the Gold family; Simisola and Adekunle. I like their music; I like their lifestyle.  I like their fashion sense too. I also like the fact that they don’t try to act like they have got it all.

Deborah Amaechi

It has to be Timi Dakolo! I like how humane he is. He is a good person, and he is a present father and a great husband. This is everything I find attractive about him.

Emmanuel Ojex

Michael Jackson. There are a lot of things about him. His message, personality, philanthropy, and I don’t see anything not to like him. People who don’t like him are either judgmental or understand his history and where he is coming from. As much as he was suffering, he was still trying his best to make things better for people worldwide. I can’t pick out one single thing I like about him.

Ireoluwa Orija

Well, my favourite celebrity is Temi Otedola. The way she carries her body, her carriage is topnotch. Her walking steps too. So humble. She’s beautiful, and she has a charming voice.  Above all, she is simple too.

Melody Bolarinwa

Pope John Paul II, once the sovereign of Vatican City and the Pope of the Catholic Church. Some Catholics also call him ‘Saint John Paul the Great.’ He was the first non-Italian since 1523 to become pope, alongside the longest-serving pope in history. He has contributed significantly to improving the Catholic Church’s relationship with the Anglican, Muslim, Jewish, and Eastern Orthodox Communities. He received much admiration from the masses but was also criticised for defending the Church’s decision against same-sex marriage.

Stella Eberechukwu

Angelina Jolie is one of the most famous and highly influential women in the world. Many can say being an actress and a producer contributes to this. Still, to me, it’s her resistance to cultural norms, her kindhearted nature to the human race that made her my supercelebrity. One particular incidence strikes me, after the adoption of her first son, Maddox, from Cambodia, this selfless woman announced that she would live there part-time so that he won’t lose touch with his heritage.

Elizabeth Ndukwu

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. You most likely know her already, but if you don’t, then please be my guest on this ride.Chimamanda is a Nigerian writer/novelist. Some of her works include Purple Hibiscus, Half of a Yellow Sun (which was adapted into a movie of the same name); Americanah. But it’s not just her excellent and outstanding writing that appeals to me. It is her personality, her charisma, her strong beliefs on feminism. Growing up, I was somewhat aware of the gender stereotypes and inequality around me, even when I didn’t consider myself a feminist. She made me see the truth.

Amos Oni

Undoubtedly Bill Gates. I can’t consider any other celebrity now because what he has done is incomparable. He did not inherit the success of Microsoft; he invented it!  It is his brainchild, his idea. Before launching Microsoft, Bill Gates was a Harvard University dropout and co-owner of a failed business called Traf-O-Data. Driven by his passion for computer programming, Gates built what would become the world’s largest software company.

Despite the hard work of its employees, the company at first experienced some difficulties with distributing any software products. Microsoft went public in 1986, and by the following year, its rising share price made then-31-year-old Gates the world’s youngest self-made billionaire. Since then, the bulk of his fortune has gone into philanthropy.
