Driver crushes middle-aged woman to death in Anambra

Police in Anambra State have arrested a driver, for allegedly crushing a middle-aged woman to death opposite Green Gate Estate, along Nkwere-33 road near Onitsha, Anambra State.

Tribune Online learnt that the accident which occurred around 3.45 pm on Wednesday, involved only the Toyota Highlander with registration number LSD931BL.

The deceased was said to be standing by the roadside when the driver of the vehicle rammed into her, killing her instantly.

The State Sector Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr Pascal Anigbo, who confirmed the crash, attributing it to excessive speed.

According to him, “At about 3.45 pm on Wednesday 22 July 2020, a fatal lone Road Traffic Crash (RTC) involving a Toyota Highlander with registration number LSD931BL was recorded opposite Green Gate Estate, along Nkwere-33 Road.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the Toyota Highlander lost control of the vehicle due to excessive speed and rammed into the woman, who was standing by the roadside, killing her instantly.

“The corpse of the dead was deposited at Apex Hospital Mortuary, Nkwelle by the FRSC rescue team from Nteje Unit Command, while the driver was arrested by the Police and taken to 33 Police Station.

“The Sector Commander Federal Road Safety Corps Anambra State, Mr Andrew A. Kumapayi sends his condolences to the family of the dead victim.

“He strongly warns drivers against speeding, especially within built-up areas. Drivers should always drive defensively while also applying common sense speed limits.”
