Cross River: Gov Otu summons security chiefs, freezes state accounts

Cross River State Governor, Prince Bassey Otu has frozen all state government accounts on his first day in office and ordered that all internally generated revenue be channelled into a single account.

The Governor has also summoned all security Chiefs in the state; the Governor also offered an amnesty window to all criminal elements reiterating that they should either turn a new leaf or exit the state.

Governor Otu further appealed to petroleum marketers to open up fuel stations and dispense the product to citizens at an official pump price, saying that “there is no need to make life difficult for Cross Riverians.”

In an update on his official Twitter handle, the Governor also approved the appointment of a 3-man transition review committee which is headed by, Ntufam Fidelis Ugbo with Prof. Eyo Etim Nyong as member and Prof. Owan Enoh as Secretary.

The committee is to amongst other things review and harmonize the transition report and present the same to the Governor for consideration and further necessary action.

“Earlier today, I instructed all accounts belonging to the state government to be frozen with immediate effect and that all transactions be stopped forthwith. I have been briefed by the accountant general and the head of the service. I have informed them that we need to do a needs assessment in terms of employment and other sectors.

“All internally generated revenue of the state will be channelled into a single account. On security, Today I had a meeting with all security chiefs and I reiterate that all criminals in the state should accept our amnesty program within the window that it will be opened or leave the state.

I, the Governor Continued, “have set up a transition review committee which will be headed by, Ntufam Fidelis Ugbo with Prof. Eyo Etim Nyong as a member and Prof. Owan Enoh as Secretary.

“I appealed to oil marketers to open their stations to Cross Riverians. There is no need to make life too difficult for Cross Riverians. I appeal to oil marketers to open their fuel station and sell fuel at an approved pump price.”
