COVID-19: Three patients discharged in Bayelsa

The Bayelsa State government task force on COVID-19 has announced that it has discharged the index patient of coronavirus in the state and two others from the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital (NDUTH) isolation centre in Okolobiri.

The chairman of the COVID-19 task force implementation committee, Dr Inodu Apoku, announced this on Monday while giving an update on the new case of coronavirus in the state.

Dr Apoku, who confirmed the new case of the virus in the state as announced by NCDC on Sunday, said the new patient is a retiree in his early sixties who returned from Abuja to the state on March, 2020, added that tracing of his contacts has begun.

He said: “The repeat test of samples was conducted for the index case and four confirmed cases linked to her who are all still on admission at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital (NDUTH) isolation centre. Two of these returned positive while three including the index case returned negative.

“The index case and two others with negative results will be discharged later, while the cases with positive results will remain at the isolation centre for further treatment and observation.

“Results from three of the suspected cases among these 16 samples are still pending. They are yet to be analysed due to the challenges with reagents that the Irrua Specialist Reference Laboratory is currently facing,” he said.

Meanwhile, Governor Douye Diri has extended the partial lockdown in the state for another one week, while borders still remain closed.
