COVID-19: JAMB to acquire locally-produced disinfectant sprayers

Published by

THE management of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has placed order for disinfectant sprayers produced locally in Nigeria by the National Agency for Science Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI).

Registrar of JAMB, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, made this known when he met with top management of NASENI in furtherance to their earlier meetings where he placed orders for disinfectant sprayers.

The NASENI had few weeks ago launched a range of technology products tagged, ‘COVID-19 interventions’ to assist  government at containing the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria.

The products included ventilators (designed and manufactured in Nigeria) to assist patients in breathing,  environmental disinfectant safety sprayers like NASENI Disinfectant Safety Tunnel O, Disinfectant Safety Tunnel U, the Single-Cham  Disinfectant Sprayer, Keke NASENI Disinfectant Sprayer, and Vehicle-Mounted Disinfectant Sprayers, which could be mounted on both trucks and Hilux vans.

All pieces of equipment were locally designed and produced by NASENI engineers to protect Nigerian cities and towns against the virus.

Oloyede, while welcoming the delegation from  NASENI, commended them for providing the needed support to the nation through relevant innovations at this critical moment when every nation is thinking of home-grown technology.

He, however, urged them to review the cost of their products downward so as to ensure wider patronage.

The registrar also advised NASENI to work on the aesthetics of the machines in order to compete favourably with those produced abroad.

He said: “NASENI Disinfectant Safety Sprayers have  come handy even as we look forward to consolidating on our partnership with you and other similar organisations towards deploying more locally-produced equipment.”

He added that the entire workers at the board’s headquarters and outstations would be sanitised before and after closing on a daily basis during the phased reopening.

He stated that the board would not want to take chances with the safety of its staff as it complied with the directive on the gradual easing of the lockdown.

He disclosed that before resumption of staff as directed by relevant agencies of government, the board had decontaminated its headquarters and other offices across the nation and stated that the procurement of the equipment would be an extra layer of protection for the staff.

The executive vice chairman of NASENI, Professor Mohammad Haruna, expressed his appreciation to the registrar for his patriotism, especially at a period when many are fixated on foreign products.

He assured the registrar that the equipment that would be supplied to the board would meet  the specifications agreed upon in terms of aesthetics, added features and durability.
