Care for your neighbours at this period —Ilaka

The Chief of Staff to Oyo State Governor, Chief Bisi Ilaka, has urged the state residents to care for their neighbors, as he commended the Youth Christian Circle (YCC) for their generosity.

Chief Ilaka stated this on Monday, at the St. James’ Cathedral The Great, Oke-Bola, Ibadan while declaring open the distribution of palliatives to 1,500 church members and neighbors – Muslims and Christians alike, by the YCC, a Society in the Cathedral.

Earlier, the Cathedral Provost, Very Reverend. David Olagbaju, had welcomed Ilaka, assuring him of the church’s continuous prayer for the state government.

He told the ChurchNews that the coronavirus pandemic is a leveller, teaching everyone that they are all the same, even as he noted that the nation and individuals ought to plan for the next level. He also urged the tiers of government to revamp the state hospitals, especially the University College Hospital (UCH), which should be a referral centre indeed.

The YCC president, Chief Reuben Famuyibo, noted that the world is under trial and wondered if the COVID-19 is spiritual, scientific or a wrath from God.

He said the 84 members of the 72-year old YCC provided the palliatives to cushion the hunger ravaging the larger society.

Mr Aderinola Omowon, YCC’s General Secretary, said Suave Empire, a fashion designing outfit, supported the Society’s cause with 200 pieces of branded face masks, distributed at the event to fight the spread of COVID-19, adding that five orphanages also benefitted from YCC’s largesse.

Three of the beneficiaries, Mrs Taiwo Adeniyi, a fashion designers, whose children are members of the Cathedral’s Boys’ Brigade; Mr Samuel Adeniyi, a pharmacy attendant and Chief Sajuku Olanrewaju, a kingmaker from Ilase in Osun State, who appreciated the YCC, said the intervention was timely.
