Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board has said since Saudi Arabia barred international pilgrims from participating in the Hajj due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the board will refund the fees deposited by intending pilgrims for this year’s Hajj.
This was just as the board added that those who want to book for next year’s Hajj have the option to leave their deposits with the Board.
The 2020 Hajj is scheduled to begin on July 28 and marks the first time since 1932, the year of Saudi Arabia’s founding, that limitations have been placed on the pilgrimage.
The executive secretary of the board, Abba Dambatta, who disclosed this on Wednesday, said the Saudi’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah said Muslims of any nationality currently residing in Saudi Arabia are permitted to perform the Hajj.
Mr Dambatta, however, added that those who want to collect their deposits would be refunded while those who want to book for next year’s Hajj have the option to leave their deposits with the Board.
According to him, Saudi Arabia on Monday barred international pilgrims from participating in the Hajj due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Saudi authorities, also stated that those performing the Hajj must be under 65 years old and will be tested upon arrival in Mecca.
