In recognition of his support for a clean, green and sustainable environment in Anambra, a Journalist and the Editorial Board Chairman of Obev Industries Limited Port Harcourt, (the Publishers of Freenews Magazine), Mr Obinna Evaristus Mbonu, has presented an award of excellence in Environmental sustainability to the Anambra State Commissioner for Environment, Engr Felix Odimegwu.
During an interactive session with the newsmen after the award presentation, tagged; “Ambassador of Development and Environmental Sustainability” at the State Secretariat Awka, over the weekend, the Commissioner, who appreciated the gesture described the session as the first of its kind in the state urging the company to improve on reporting the state government projects and programs for the citizens of the state.
He said that the media is one of the organs promoting democracy and good governance to meet the yearnings and aspirations of the people in the state, adding, that democracy cannot work without the effort of the media as the mechanism for feedback.
As Anambra State moves to the recovery process, Odimegwu urges Journalists to continue to keep people informed about the government projects that have a positive impact on them such as Environmental cleanness, health care service delivery, education, portable drinking water, electricity, markets, and among others, assuring that the State Government would continue to do it best to ensure that the dividends of democracy get to every citizen of the state.
He appealed to the Journalists in the state to adhere to the ethics of the profession by disseminating accurate information to the public assuring them to continue to provide a conducive environment for all.
While dedicating the award to Governor Soludo, the Commissioner noted that the Ministry under his watch has planted 1 million trees and that more trees will be planted in the bid to make the state environment green and sustainable.
He said his team at the ministry only plays assigned roles that help make positive impact in the sector, adding that though a lot still needs to be done, the award can only spur them to rededicate themselves to achieving Soludo’s set agenda.
In his speech, while presenting the award, the Editorial Board Chairman, Mr. Mbonu, said it is part of the duties of the media to defend democracy and to ensure that political leaders deliver on promises made to the masses.
He said that Anambra has changed from being a refuse dump site, and now has a clean and green environment under the Commissioner, urging him to keep up the good work, calling on others to emulate him in driving the policies and programmes of the Soludo administration.
