Workers’ Day: NLC demands reversal of 26 sacked workers by Kano govt

Published by

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Chairman, Kano State chapter, Kabiru Ado Minjibir, has called on Kano State government to immediately reverse the sacking of 26 workers in the state, describing it as an “arbitrary and cruel” decision.

It will be recalled that in 2017, Kano State government sacked 26 staff with the hospital management board who were alleged of collecting either double or overpayment of salaries.

However, while addressing the executive members from other allied workers union in Kano on Saturday, in commemoration of May Day also known as workers day, the chairman said the action by the state government, violated the fundamental human and trade union rights of the workers, as they were not given a fair hearing.

According to him, across the world, the Labour movement is today commemorating Workers’ Day but in Kano and part of the country, there appears to be nothing to celebrate apart from being alive.

The state NLC also demands the payment of outstanding pensions, gratuities and death benefits to retirees which cumulated to over N26 billion.

He then called for the implementation of re-deployment of 1,017 staff from Head of civil service to Hospital management board as approved by the governor.
