Why I went cultural in my new single, ‘Tebe tebe’ —Blessing Tangban

For fast rising Afrofolk and alternative singer, Blessing Tangban, culture has always been a source of inspiration for her kind of music as she further showcases her class as a leading Afrofolk singer on the continent.

The singer and guitarist who started her music career in the United States before relocating to the Nigeria was one of the myriad of entertainers whose shows were affected by the outbreak of the pandemic Coronavirus.

Instead of just waiting on the situation to die down like many of her colleagues in the industry, Blessing Tangban has with her new tune given fans something to encourage the mood and entertain notwithstanding the trying times.

The new single ‘Tèbè tèbè’ comes off the back of previous works with Johnny Drille and M.I with the song, according to the alternative singer, bilingual folk song written which features Ejagham, her indigenous language from Cross River State.

Speaking with Saturday Tribune, Tangban disclosed that due to the gloom that had enveloped the global atmosphere due to the biting economic inactivity, it was right to give people a cheering song especially for those who worry about the future of their loved ones and the cultural touch of her indigenous language would make it a heartfelt rendition.

“This present time has got people uncertain and worried about what is to come, especially with the whole pandemic and economic pandemonium. As an Afrofolk singer, we can take solace in our culture through music and it is exactly what inspired my new song. God has got all of us,” the singer revealed.
