Suspected kidnappers, on Tuesday afternoon, struck again on the Benin- Auchi Road and took an unspecified number of passengers into captivity.
Tribune Online gathered the victims were passengers of a popular transport company, which was conveying them to Abuja.
The incident happened between Ehor and Iruekpen, an axis that has become notorious in recent times with criminal elements operating with reckless abandon.
The gun-wielding suspected kidnappers were said to have emerged from the bush, shooting and forced the bus to come to a sudden halt before they swooped on the passengers.
According to eyewitnesses, besides the driver and three female passengers, the remaining 14 passengers were abducted and forcefully taken into the bush by the kidnappers.
One of the female passengers of the bus, who escaped confirmed that three females escaped the ordeal, just as another eyewitness, who claimed to be a student of the Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, said the development forced other vehicles to stop abruptly and park by the roadside.
A regular user of the road and transport company, who took to his social media page, said he was forced to cancel his planned trip.
“I was already at the park when one elderly woman cried to the park that their vehicle was kidnapped that they set her free to come to give them the information… I had to return the ticket and collect my money back,” he said.
“Please for those that still have a mind to travel to Benin or Ekpoma today be careful!”, he counselled
When contacted, spokesman for the Edo State Police Command, Chidi Nwabuzor, said the police was yet to be briefed on the incident.
“We have not been briefed (yet), the command is not aware of such development, once I am briefed, I will let you know,” the police spokesman promised.
