Two fuel tankers, one Dangote truck involved in accidents in Lagos

Less than 24 hours after the Ogba fuel mishap, two oil tankers and one Dangote truck were on Thursday involved in lone accidents in Lagos.

Two tankers spilt their contents at Ojuelegba and Mile 2 respectively. However, there were no fire outbreaks and no lives were lost.

This is according to a release issued by Nosa Okunbor, Head, Public Affairs, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and signed by Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the DG/CEO LASEMA.

The first, a Conoil tanker truck with unknown registration, loaded to capacity with 33, 000 litres of PMS reportedly fell sideways in a lone accident spilling its contents on the main carriageway on Western Avenue, inward Ojuelegba, when it lost control while on motion.

All the 33,000 litres of PMS the oil tanker truck was conveying spilt into the drains in the affected environment, even before the arrival of the empty tanker meant to transload whatever remains of its contents.

A preliminary report emanating from the DG/CEO LASEMA’s desk, on this accident has it that, “Upon arrival at the scene of the incident, it was discovered that a Conoil tanker with unknown registration number loaded with 33,000 litres of PMS lost control while in motion and fell sideways as a result of a suspected mechanical fault. This led to the contents spilling on the main carriageway and obstructing vehicular activities.

“There was no loss of life nor injury sustained at the scene.

In a similar accident at Mile 2, inward Berger, LASEMA Response Team has recovered another fallen diesel tanker loaded to its 45,000 litres capacity, that fell and spilt its content even as miscreants commenced scooping of the spilt oil.

According to a preliminary report on this accident, “LASEMA Response Team on arrival at the scene of the incident saw a tanker with registration number BEN 215 XY loaded with forty thousand litres of DPK (Diesel) that slipped off the road due to its bad state while trying to manoeuvre an exit route along the corridor.

“This led to spilling out of its content all over the area which poses a threat to the entire neighbourhood. The spilling diesel was being scooped by some hoodlums in the area, but with the timely intervention of the RRS of the Nigerian Police, Lagos State Command and LASEMA Response Team, the situation was brought under control.”

Meanwhile, LASEMA Response Team yet in another operation recovered a Dangote Silos truck involved in a lone accident which occurred at Ponle, inward Iyana Ipaja, but did not record loss of lives, nor injuries in an accident attributed to overspeeding and recklessness of the truck driver, who allegedly lost control of his truck and got stuck in a drainage by the roadside,

According to LASEMA, “On getting to the scene of the incident it was discovered that a Dangote truck with registration number AJG -202 XA was involved in a lone accident.

“Further investigation gathered at the scene of the incident revealed that the accident was caused as a result of overspeeding and recklessness of the truck driver who lost control of the truck and got stuck in the drainage by the side of the road.

“No loss of life nor injuries recorded at the scene of the incident.”
