Traditional, elected leaders have failed to tackle insecurity — Emir of Ningi

Published by

Worried by the spate of insecurity in his domain, the Emir of Ningi, Alh Dr Yunusa Muhammadu Danyaya, admitted that both traditional rulers and elected leaders in the area share the responsibility of ridding the area of bandits and kidnappers who are terrorising the residents.

The Emir, for the second time, read a riot act to the community leaders, warning that anyone found to have any connection with the current insecurity in the Ningi local government area should blame themselves, as he will not spare such a person.

The Emir also mentioned that a discreet investigation is ongoing with the aim of identifying the individuals among the traditional rulers and informants who are assisting the bandits in carrying out attacks on innocent members of the communities.

A visibly worried Yunusa Danyaya spoke during separate meetings with the traditional rulers from Burra, Ari, and Ningi Districts in his palace recently.

The Emir noted that this was the second meeting he had with community leaders in an effort to re-strategize the security architecture at the grassroots level.

He stated, “We are profiling you, the Ward Heads of the Ningi Local Government Area. As I told you in our first meeting, I will dethrone and dismiss whoever is found conniving with the terrorists. We will not tolerate such nonsense.”

The Emir acknowledged that both the traditional and elected officials had failed to eradicate the bandit groups and syndicates terrorising the area.

However, he pledged that drastic security measures would be employed and their mission would be accomplished.

Yunusa Danyaya expressed confidence that, with the success achieved in the fight against insecurity, there is a need for everyone to join hands in making the area an insecurity-free zone.

The Emir stated, “Over the past 30 days since our first meeting with you, there have been no reported incidents of criminal activities in the area.

Recently, intelligence reports at our disposal showed that the bandits are adopting new plans to launch mayhem on the good people of the area, where they attacked and killed one Civil Defence personnel in Gamji Village. We will not allow things to go this way.”

In his remarks at the meetings, the Caretaker Chairman of the Ningi local government area, Hon. Ibrahim Zubairu, explained that the measures taken so far and the rearrangement of the security formation patterns have yielded positive results in the fight against terrorism in the area.

The Chairman expressed his appreciation for the support from the state governor, Sen. Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad, and mentioned that the Council would complement efforts to ensure that no stone is left unturned in maintaining peace and tranquillity across the area.
