The three construction workers abducted in Akunnu Akoko in Akoko North-East Local Government Area of Ondo State, by some gunmen suspected to be kidnappers last Tuesday, have regained their freedom.
The three men were released in the early hours of Monday after spending a week with the kidnappers
The workers engaged by a construction firm handling the 16 kilometres Ikaram-Akunu-Akoko highway, were rounded up after the close of work and whisked into the forest by the gunmen.
A source who confirmed the release of the three construction workers said they regained their freedom after ransom was paid.
The kidnappers had earlier demanded N20m as a ransom for the release of the three victims but the source however could not confirm the amount paid by the families of the three victims
The source said the three victims were taken to an undisclosed hospital for a medical check-up
It was gathered that the abduction of the three workers affected work on the construction site road as other workers were scared of returning to the site.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Tee-Leo Ikoro, confirmed the release of the workers but could not confirm if the ransom was paid before they were released.
The workers were said to be working the construction of the 16.2km Akunnu/ Ikaram/ Oke-Agbe road which had been abandoned for over 18 years.
