A legal practitioner and Human Rights Activits, Dr Kayode Ajulo on Sunday urged President Muhammodu Buhari to name all the identified sponsors of terrorism in the country as contained in his Independence Day anniversary broadcast to the nation so as to end insurgency activities in the land for peace to reign in the land
The copy of the broadcast was made available to newsmen in Abuja by the former National Secretary of the Labour Party (LP).
President Buhari in his broadcast on Nigeria’s independence at 61 on Friday, had said: ”the recent arrests of Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Adeyemo (Igboho) and ongoing investigations being conducted, revealed certain high-profile financiers behind these individuals.
“We are vigorously pursuing these financiers including one identified as a serving member of the national assembly.”
However, Dr Ajulo, in the statement said that it had become imperative that sponsors of insecurity in the country must be specifically identified.
He said the sponsors should be named, apprehended and made to face the full weight of the law.
The former LP chieftain also urged Nigerians to support the president in tackling security challenges nationwide.
According to him, “We need to name and deal with them accordingly, within the ambit of the law.”
“Since the inception of this administration, the citizenry has been assured of government’s utmost attention to security, which the Federal Government has vigorously pursued.”
“We need to be reassured, hence the need to name and deal with terrorism sponsors accordingly.”
He said that the nation’s security agencies must be assisted by all to dominate the nation’s security space against invasion by terrorists and other criminals.
On the President’s pledge to expand opportunities for more youths, Ajulo said: “It is also expected that youths must be engaged as they are the present and future of the nation.
“Youth interventions should be all-encompassing and a holistic engagement is urged, as a solution to Nigeria’s security and economic challenges.”
The President in his broadcast had said: “The youths of this great country remain propellants for our today and provide guarantees that we will have a secure tomorrow.”
“It is for this reason that I remain focused on expanding opportunities for their participation in politics and governance.”
“Recent appointments of young people into positions of authority and their track records so far, give me confidence that we need to bring more of them into governance, and this I promise to do.”
