Is it true that heavy smokers are protected from COVID infection because of the hot smoke in their throat?

Although a recent study by some scientists suggested a ‘protective effect on the likelihood  of hospitalizations of COVID 19 patients’, the study was rejected in several medical circles as biased and unscientific. Further studies are underway to reach a more acceptable  conclusion  on the matter.
