Shawwal moon: India, Malaysia, Iran, others to celebrate Eid-al-Fitr on Monday

Published by

The Shawwal moon was not sighted on Saturday in several countries, including Iran, Malaysia, Australia, Bangladesh, Indonesia, India, and Brunei, confirming that Eid al-Fitr will be celebrated on Monday, March 31.

Iran and Oman have officially declared that Eid will be observed on Monday, following the sunset that marked the 29th day of Ramadan.

According to the Express Tribune, the crescent moon is expected to be visible to the naked eye on Sunday, signifying the conclusion of the holy month.

In Malaysia, religious authorities made the announcement after extensive efforts to sight the moon at designated locations. The absence of a visible crescent means Ramadan will be completed in 30 days, with Eid celebrations set for March 31.

Similarly, Indonesia’s Ministry of Religious Affairs confirmed that the moon was not sighted, meaning that the world’s largest Muslim-majority nation will also observe Eid on Monday.

Bangladesh has likewise declared Monday as the first day of Eid, with media reports confirming that the Shawwal moon was not visible in Bangladesh, India, or Brunei. As a result, all three nations will mark the celebration on the same day.

Additionally, the Australian Fatwa Council has confirmed that Eid al-Fitr will be celebrated on Monday, March 31, in Australia.

Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, will be observed across these countries with special prayers, family gatherings, and festive meals.

Tribune Online reports that the Mudir of Markaz, Sheikh Muhammed Habibullah Adam Abdullah El-Ilory, recently called on Nigerian Muslims to prepare for Eid-ul-Fitr on Monday, citing both scientific calculations and Islamic traditions
