Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume has extended scholarships and education support to 1,100 students in his constituency through the “Ndume Educational Support Project”.
The initiative was launched at El Kanemi Hall, University of Maiduguri, on Monday.
Ndume noted that the beneficiaries were selected based on their performance at their respective higher institutions.
He emphasised that this support was in line with his commitment to assisting students in acquiring quality education, expressing gratitude for the overwhelming support received during his election campaign.
To demonstrate progress, Ndume disclosed that twenty million naira and two hundred thousand had already been disbursed, with beneficiaries set to receive their support on Monday.
The event celebrated Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume’s dedication to the education sector and his multifaceted contributions to his constituency.
Ndume firmly believes in the transformative power of supporting students in their pursuit of education.
He revealed ongoing efforts to expand the Ndume Educational Support Programme, underscoring the need for significant investments in education from the government and other key stakeholders.
Senator Ndume acknowledged the commitment of the Zulum administration to advancing education in the state.
Speaking on behalf of Governor Babagana Zulum, his deputy, Umar Usman Kadafur, said, “Governor Zulum, known for his keen insight into the needs of the people he serves, acknowledged Senator Ndume’s remarkable efforts in various spheres, including youth employment, empowerment, agriculture, the provision of clean water, and most notably, education”.
“Governor Zulum commended Senator Ndume’s dedication to improving the lives of his constituents”.
The Deputy Governor announced a personal contribution of ten million Naira to the Ndume Educational Support for its next project.
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri, Professor Aliyu Shugaba, expressed appreciation to Senator Ndume for his unwavering support of students in higher institutions.
He emphasised the critical role of education and the significant impact that the Educational Support Initiative would have.
Professor Shugaba called on other individuals of means to follow Senator Ndume’s example in making positive contributions to the field of education.
The Coordinator of the Ndume Educational Support, Junaid Jibril Maiva, reflected on the program’s origins, emphasising that it was designed to assist the most needy students.
The initiative aims to provide support for 1,100 students across the nine local governments of Borno South. Each of the one hundred and one wards will have ten students pursuing higher education who will receive educational support of twenty thousand Naira each.
Some of the beneficiaries of the initiative expressed their profound gratitude to Senator Ndume and committed to using the funds for their intended educational purposes. The event exemplified the profound impact of Senator Ndume’s unwavering dedication to education and the improvement of his constituents’ lives.
