The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Cross River is seeking the governorship seat with all resoluteness as the party has snatched the former gubernatorial candidate of the Labor Party (LP) for 2023.
The SDP insists that it is out to rescue Cross River State.
The party said the ex-Labour Party governorship candidate, Ernest Jones, left the Labour Party because of the lingering conflict in the party, “meaning the party is not ready to win elections in the state”.
Ernest is now running for a House of Assembly seat instead of governorship as when with the Labour Party.
Responding to questions on the development, the SDP governorship candidate for Cross River, Effiom Okokon, said, “we are out with a six-point agenda because our state has been in shekels since 1999; we are coming to rescue Cross River, through proper rural development, tourism, education, Agriculture, security and more.
“I have that experience and I can lead Cross River, I am going to work with everybody in the state and ensure that everyone is onboard. We will overhaul our tax policies to bring back companies and businesses into the state.”
In his reactions to the emerging issues, the ex-Labour Party gubernatorial candidate, Ernest Jones, said, “I have found a new family in SDP, I left Labour, Party, a group of the crowd, who are just going about making noise, I don’t think they are ready to win elections in Cross River.
“We had issues about the governorship, which the national body refused to settle and till now they don’t think they have a governorship candidate; so am with my new SDP family, people who are willing and ready to take over the state.”
Meanwhile, Comrade Daniel Obo, the deputy governorship candidate of the SDP, said Cross Riverians should count on them as a team of young people who will collaboratively work to fix Cross River State.
